The UGLYZ With "Youth For Change"

4th Ashar 2062

By Savina Gurung, Pokhara

On 4th of Ashar, 2062, Dipendra city hall was worth going. It was the day when "The UGLYZ Band" from the capital was here in Pokhara to perform for the first time. The UGLYZ are Sarun, Sudip and Sandesh. But take my word, they are not really ugly, they are good looking hunks and all of them. With the initiation of "Youth For Change", a non-profit organization based in Pokhara, this program had been possible. The main theme of the concert was to raise fund for the organization itself as it is not supported financially by outer bodies, neither government nor non-government up to date.

"Aaudai jaadai garnu yo jeevan ma..." has been like a national anthem for the youths today. Yes, this is yet another famous song among today's generation. That was the reason for the UGLYZ to be here. The audience, so called crowd of the day, had started gathering in the premises of the city hall from 12 pm onwards as the concert was due to start at 1pm. There were people from all age groups and in all colors, especially dressed for the day. Majority of the audience were girls. Had it been a girl band then its obvious that the boys would have taken the majority. By 1 pm, the auditorium was full of people and there were no space even to move an inch. We still had to make place for the audiences who were waiting outside the main gate. But the security informed us that the hall's capacity was full and it could not take more people. The people outside continuously demanded for tickets, as they were ready to stand and watch the UGLYZ perform.

Before the boy band, there were other local bands such as D-Marcha, The Psychotic Nerves, Arbin TUlachan, Spear Boys, Shovit Basyal, PANGEA (Pratit and frens) and Ujjwal Bhandari who rocked the audience. But the main excitement started when the UGLYZ took the crowd spell-bound. As soon as Sarun started singing, all the girls started cheering for UGLYZ. We could hear audience sing with him. Girls as well as boys were parading up on the stage one by one to take snaps. The crowds were unmanageable, as everyone wanted to take snaps and autograph of their favorite band. At the end of the show all the audience had gathered back stage to take a glimpse of the band, ironically the security had to force them out.

Overall the show was a grand success and the crowd shocked the management of the city hall, as this was the first time they had ever seen so many people gather for a concert. No wonder the loss made by such a huge bunch was also shocking. Still can't believe we had 55 broken chairs at the end of the show. Despite all the damages and crazy crowds, everyone enjoyed the show. Let's hope that "Youth For Change" will continue these sorts of events that are fruitful for both the audiences as well as the organization. The fund raised will be utilized by the organization for its annual programs like Youth Discussion Series; Youth Seminar Series; College Campaign Series; Skill Development Program; Life Skill Development Program; Leadership, education & development Program; Volunteerism, initiatives, creating employment (VICE); Youth development Fund; Research and Publication(magazine) and Organizational Development.
