Capacity building -
The Center piece of development |

Nepal's
level of human development remains among the lowest in the world. Development
outcomes have varied inequitably, manifesting themselves in gender, caste,
ethnic and geographic disparities. The present situation of injustice,
inequity, and discrimination, exploitation of castes by powerful social groups
and political parties and absence of good governance, increased poverty,
unemployment, brain drain, labor migration and the further exclusion of poor
and marginalized communities.... HIV/AIDS, drugs abuse.....uncivilized
society....
People's needs have gone unfulfilled, institutions have weakened, and
policies have not been sufficiently pro-poor, leaving vast segments of the
population outside mainstream development. The outbreak of armed violence has
exacerbated all these problems, pushing the country into deeper crisis.
Youth
for Change, Nepal believes development means well being of human beings. Unless
people are properly equipped with education, skills no development is possible.
If we see last 50 years Nepal has always focused on infrastructure development
that is why we are in present situation. We had many leaders but very few
have got leadership qualities. We had many organizations but very few existing
effectively. YC believes capacity building is the most important issue to
be focused.
Capacity can be defined as the ability of individuals and organizations or
organizational units to perform functions effectively, efficiently and in
a sustainable manner.
The capacity building initiative of Youth for Change, Nepal operates and aims
at enabling young people and youth organizations to manage change, institutionalize
pluralism in the organizations, enhance co-ordination, foster communication,
mobilize resource and ensure that data and information are properly managed
and shared.
"Capacity building has to be something that the organization, number one,
wants--that they are in the process of identifying what they need... It's how
we approach it: we're not the experts giving you information, but instead
we're helping people share the skills they already have.
"Youth for Change, Nepal
involves in capacity building in two ways. First, it helps in the personal
development of young people Second; it helps in organizational development,
especially youth organizations.
